Jelly Donuts? / Harry, that goes without saying.

There are certain situations where I really like it when someone's watching a movie in another room.  Like right now.  Saturday morning, tea's steeping, got some busywork to do on the computer, and my roommates are watching a German movie in the other room.  I can hear it in the background and the unintelligible words and random sound effects are perfect for a Saturday morning.  I guess I wouldn't necessarily want to be watching a movie right now, but I am pleased that someone else is enjoying one.

I often find things more entertaining when I'm not being directly engaged by them.  One example is conversations.  I have noticed that I really like listening to a conversation between two people, but would not like it as much if I were one of the two people in the conversation.  I think this has to do with the fact that when you're directly talking to someone, you have to pay attention to movement and facial expression and tone of voice and what you're going to say, etc.  Whereas when you're just listening in, your mind can wander wherever it wants, unencumbered by those other concerns.

It's been a fairly hectic two weeks at work.  So, yesterday I treated myself to a delicious meal at Poesia with 3 friends.  As Special Agent Dale Cooper says, "Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot black coffee. "  He is a man both wise and preposterous.
